Ambulances: Reform for a Safer Cincinnati
Every day in Cincinnati someone calls 911 with an emergency only to hear that "no ambulance is available." For years now, demand for ambulance transport has increased, while the Fire Department has been working with the same number of aging ambulances.
In the 2009-2010 Budget, Jeff fought to add two new ambulances to the Fire Department's fleet, and those two ambulances went into service in the first week of 2009.
Jeff also created and co-chaired the Ambulance Transport Policy Task Force, and those recommendations were unanimously passed by City Council in June of 2009. They include:
- New protocol for emergency transport, so no one can use ambulances as taxicabs to the doctor's office.
- A new home-health care coordination system, so that frequent 911 callers are matched up with a home-health nurse and a doctor at one of the City's health clinics.
- Recommendations for more trained paramedics in the Fire Department, and more ambulances to respond to emergencies
Jeff is fighting to make Cincinnati a safer City - and the final report from this task force show the results of his hard work. The recommendations adopted by Council will get Cincinnatians to the hospital for medical emergencies, and will help at-risk citizens find a quality medical home.
